Unfortunately, last week’s dismal weather did mean that some of our expected vendors could not be there. We hate when that happens. But cold and wet weekend to the contrary, SUMMER is indeed coming in, and the Lansdowne Farmers Market will soon be brimming with the fresh fruits and veggies of the season…not to mention (but we will) local wine, beer, and spirits; breads and cheeses; jams and jellies and pickled peppers, desserts and coffee. And always room for a few surprises as we go along.
This has been a difficult winter for all of us…including our local farmers and vendors, so this market season is an especially welcome break in the virtual clouds. And we’re just getting started. Come be a part of it.
Continuing on with Who’s New on the Midway:
Oatastic Creations What have they done to my oatmeal?!?!?
Move over, Quaker Oats Guy; this new vendor takes that boring old standard out of the pot and into the pan with rich, moist, gluten-free muffins. Breakfast just got interesting.
What goes with muffins? If you said coffee…ding ding ding!! Now, raise your hand if you know what “cupping” coffee is…and if you don’t, or even if you do…welcome toAfaf Coffee, a local micro-brewer perking up your day with small-batch quality java.
The June 5 schedule: Here’s everyone scheduled to be on hand: Big Sky Bread, Firehouse Donuts, Fruitwood Farms, Green Zebra Farms (yes, he’s back!), GreenHorn Gardens, Mitchell & Mitchell Wines, MyHouse Cookies, Taste of Puebla, Wilson’s Curiously Good Foods, Takay Catering, Oatastic Creations, Cocco’s Gelateria, Conshohocken Brewing Company, Shimpy’s BBQ, Afaf Coffee, KayWay Juice, The Pure Truth Culinary Services, Love Naturally. All you need to know about our vendors, or our schedule can be found on the LFM Website.
Note that not every vendor is here every week…many will maintain an alternate week or once a month schedule. So if you have a “gotta have” favorite, make sure you know when to make room in your basket and budget.
Watch this space. Even in our temporarily abbreviated state, there’s still lots to see, taste and talk about. I’ll use some of my weekly space to offer info on what’s coming in or going out of season, recipe and serving ideas, and even give some space to good summer reads. And I’m taking suggestions. So if you have something to share, flag me down and we’ll “tawk.”
A N T I C I P A T I O N
To everything there is a season…Am I the only one here who won’t eat a slice of melon before June? Or corn on the cob before July? Or peaches or strawberries? Even iced tea has its season. There’s something holy about those first tastes of summer…and our connections to them. Dixie Cup ice cream on a wooden spoon. Time travel. Long ago summers, scents and sounds.
Our Town On the Move
The LFM, the LEDC, the Borough, and other community volunteer organizations are all working to bring Lansdowne back…not to before, but to better than. First up: Arts on the Avenue, Oct.3. A chance to see and shop with all the artists we’ve missed seeing in their featured LFM spot. Hopefully more to come! Please note that all other public events are still on hold as the CDC and PA dictate. Watch this space for updates.
I’d also like to personally acknowledge ALL of the local organizations, schools, churches and kind individuals who helped at-risk members of our community access food, rides to appointments or just some grocery shopping. No less than I expected from this special town.
Happy to be here,
Terry Baraldi
- Please keep in mind that masks are still required at the market until June 28th, when the PA Mask mandate is lifted. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces in July!
