There’s no stopping the clock, or the calendar. Just when we thought the weather was stuck on August, it’s actually half past October, and the chill is finally in the air. Which means that we’re just about at the end of another season of the Lansdowne Farmers Market. But we’re not leaving quite yet…not while there’s still some Fresh …
Seasonings…
At this point, I’ve given up counting on the calendar as my shopping guide…the continued mild weather is still pumping out a last hurrah of corn, peaches and melons. Tomatoes too, although not necessarily field-ripened, are still great for slicing onto a hearty sammy or burger, or baked into a pizza. Speaking of which…our tomato sensei, Mitch of Green Zebra, …
Heading for a Fall…
This has been a most peculiar summer. I’m writing this article on the third consecutive day of sunshine since I don’t know when. It was hot…it was wet…it was sticky. On the bright side…lushest lawn and lowest water bill EVER! But today I can finally look up without swim goggles and note that the leaves have begun morphing …
Breaking News: LFM Goes to the Dogs
Oh Yeah! Doggie Day is here! And if all goes according to tradition, this week’s LFM will be just about the funnest and most raucous of the season. Brought to you by Animal Friends of Lansdowne. You should know that Lansdowners love their pets… furred, feathered and finned. And we would love to show them all off. But, dog-gone it …
Summertime and the Livin’ Is…
HOT! Raise your hand if you spent at least an hour this week fondly remembering snow. Me, too. Weather always gives us something to complain about. But if you’re like me, you’d rather find ways to stay cool than to keep warm. So let’s hold that thought. The summer crops are in and we are embracing the bounty that’s overloading …
Sweet Taste of Summer
Impossible though it might seem, we are now at the last market for June, 2018. And all of a sudden, BOOM! It’s the 4th of July. Can the Back to School ads be far behind? Didn’t we just get here? Well, yes, we did; and despite our tendency to see the bottom of the glass, we’ve still got a lot …
What’s Cookin’ at the Market?
June is bustin’ out all over (points for catching the musical reference) and pouring itself all over the produce tables…Green Zebra, Fruitwood Farms and our newest additions, Herrcastle Farms and Potato Homestead. The heat has been turned up several notches, which means that some things are going away, and some are comin’ in hot! Don’t forget to check your PA …
Just Because It’s June
“What is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days.” Amen to that, James Russell Lowell! And last Saturday’s LFM was its own kind of poetry…sun, music and food, glorious food! Once again, the threat of rain was only that…all bark, no bite. Making the rounds of the produce aisle…among the wealth of spring beauties, …
We Ain’t Afraid of No Rain
Weather forecast be darned (we’re family-friendly here at the LFM), the crew and the crowd showed up and the rain didn’t. So Lansdowne Farmers Market found its groove with the rock ’n roll sounds of Slim Jim, Big Guy and Robert. The joint was jumpin’! Even Green Zebra’s Mitch jumped on the mic for a hot lick. That’s how we …
