Bada Bing Bada BOO!

I’m not sayin’ we saved the best for last, but this week is indeed the last of the season, and we’ve managed to pack it with enough gusto to fill a tent…or several tents.  Enough, we hope, to keep you waiting for next May, and the next installment of The Lansdowne Farmers Market.

It’s our Fab Fall Fest and Community Day…a fitting end to the 2019 season and a chance to say goodbye to old friends we seldom see during the dreary winter blahs.  And maybe trade contact info and promises with some new ones.  And that ain’t all…

If tradition is followed, we’ll also be hosting some pint-sized princesses and super heroes. But don’t let age stop you…this is a no-judgment zone so, c’mon!  Feel free to release your inner child and come as a super-sized whatever. We’ll be ready for some early trick-or-treaters…of any age.  But sadly, the BIG FUN is reserved for the 10-and- under set…so no cheating.

At precisely 11:45, all the little goblins and assorted creatures should report, in costume, to the Landing, where Mayor Tony will lead them down to the MONSTER BASH at the Twentieth Century Club.

And as if that weren’t enough, holy alliteration, BatMan!  it’s Costumes, Candy, AND Community Day!  So even more fun and surprises on The Landing side of things.

And of course, the usual bounty of produce and foodstuffs that you’ve all come to expect and, even better, taken a chance on trying something new.  Please be sure to thank the farmers whose blood, sweat and proudly dirty fingernails have brought you to the table.

NOTE: Many of you have been asking for Sebastian and Creative Shepherd.  We’re pleased to report that he is also scheduled for the day.  Always something surprising.

In the Music Tent:  Meghan Cary. Singer/songwriter/storyteller and one of our favorites.

Artist of the Week: Three Nieces Knits.  Mary Livingston, with the obsession of every new knitter, has discovered the joy of creating wearable art in the form of hats and gloves and all sorts of cozy comforts for the winter ahead. HINT: Someone you know would love something you see.

Health and Beauty: Izzy Lizzy Organics is back for our last market.  I love these two ladies…funny and full of advice on things to keep the winter from having its way with you.

Well, dear readers, we knew it had to come…but it always comes too darn soon. This is the last installment of love letters to the summer of 2019 and the official Lansdowne Farmers Market season.  Because, really that’s what they are.  Just as the Market itself is a labor of love for this one-square-mile town, and the people inside.  There’s a LOT to love.  So this Saturday, while we’ll still have things to buy and to savor, I’d like to spend at least some time on the how of it all.

If you’ve never been here in the hour before Market, it’s a lot like watching the clowns piling out of the VW.   Tents, tables, chairs, and more…How do we fit all that stuff into one little shed?  One word: Practice!   Another word: Muscle…and one more: Volunteers.   Because none of this would happen without them.

Those of us who man the LFM each Saturday do it because, over the course of more than a decade, we have seen not only the market grow, but our community as well.  New families, young families, have made Lansdowne their home because they want to live in a town that has a center and a sense of place.  We think that’s worth a summer of Saturdays.  But, TRUTH? We wouldn’t mind sharing the love.  And some fresh perspectives.  So, maybe, next summer you might consider having your first cuppa with us at the shed…then you can go back to your breakfast…or even back to bed…or stay for the good company.  With our thanks.   The sense of satisfaction comes at no extra charge.

Enough said.

October…It happens every year…and we are always surprised.  Where did those flying calendar pages go, and how did we spend them?  Well, if you spent at least some of them right here, with us, we can assume that you ate well, and that you enjoyed the company and the passing scene right here in ‘Downe not ‘Dale.

BUT WAIT!!!   Mark the date:  NOVEMBER 23.   Because breaking up is hard to do, we’ll be back for a reprise and a very special pre-Thanksgiving LFM.  ALL of our vendors are invited to meet us here…same time, same place.

So, make some room in the freezer and come get all the goodies you need for the coming holiday season… and maybe cut that Christmas list down to size.

See you there.

Terry Baraldi
