This is the BIG one.
By the time you’re reading this, and if the weather gods have smiled, we’ve already done our share of flag- and hand-waving along the parade route…we’ve marched and biked, strummed and mummered, or just sat on the same curb we always have…with the same friends and family. Tradition! And from the Fourth and the fireworks, all the way through the weekend, parties and picnics will be the rule of the day…and night. More tradition.
And that means food! Lots of food! Are you ready?
To get you there, here’s this week’s lineup of vendors: Big Sky Bread, Fruitwood Farms, Herrcastle Farm, Mitchell & Mitchell Wines, MyHouse Cookies and Pies, Potato Homestead, Wilson’s Curiously Good Foods, Cheryl’s Southern Style, Dock Street Beer, Jerky Jack, Kia’s Cakes, Solrig Farm, Taste of Puebla, The Pure Truth Culinary Services, The Icery, Bonnie’s Wondergardens, Pezone Cello
Makin’ a list…checkin’ it twice:
Fresh fruit for eating out of hand. Or maybe, for the serious foodies, Peach Pie (I won’t tell if you cheat on the crust). Maybe Fresh Cherry Crisp. The calendar may be running out on strawberries, but fingers crossed for just one more shortcake. Of course, just any old blue, black or red raspberries, in a bowl, topped with whipped cream places a pretty sweet second.
Who’s bringing the salad? Local potatoes may not be here yet, but Potato Homestead has lots of crunchy add-ins to glam up any store-boughts. Radishes, carrots, and onions can add some crunch to your lunch and make an old-standby look like a new beau.
The corn on the cob arrived just in time. And whether you vote for steamed, boiled or roasted, it fairly screams SUMMER! and sends me traveling back to skinned knees, pigtails and fireflies. And yes, kids still love to chase those little lights over dewy night lawns…no batteries needed. Nice!
The drinks are on the house…but only if you bring ‘em. So, if you’re helpless in the kitchen, and you usually earn your three huzzahs in the beverage department, we’ve got your back with Mitchell & Mitchell Wines, Dock Street Beer, and for that international flair, Pezone Cello for some adult lemonade… throw in a quart or two of the Icery’s lemon water ice…cue the mandolins.
This just in! Along with the fireflies…butterflies are back! Monarchs and Black Swallowtails have been floating around laying eggs like they were going out of style…and sadly, they may have a point.* These beauties are finding food in short supply…and they need our help. So maybe wander over to Bonnie’s Wondergarden forsome sweet inspiration, and invite some butterflies to the party.
*A great summer read: Flight Behavior by…yep, Barbara Kingsolver again. Fictional romance and factual research unfold around the very real drama of the migrating monarchs.
In the Music Tent: It just wouldn’t be 4th of July without Lansdowne’s own oom pah pah band: Mansfield Brass.
Artist of the Week: Tanya Minott Jewelry Beads, stones and crystals crafted into unique and organic one of a kind pieces.
And the kids should be sure to spend some time at the YMCA tent …what’ll it be this week?
Have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend! And there’s still plenty of summer left! Check out the calendar of upcoming events elsewhere in this newsletter. You can also check future vendor schedules at the LFM website or FB page.
See you at the LFM.
