Cocktails are in Order

It’s only August and we are being bombarded with back-to-school commercials, which invariably means the need for some sort of cocktail. Whether you are celebrating your children’s return to school or, like me, nostalgic about my chickadees that flew the nest, you’re sure to enjoy this recipe for a mojito that can be made with a few ingredients that can be found at market.

Blackberry Mojito Recipe
Prep time: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 1

2 ounces white rum
2 ounces club soda
½ ounce lime juice, or 3 lime wedges
6-7 mint leaves
3 blackberries
¾ ounce simple syrup (1 tablespoon of sugar will do)
Cup of ice

In a shaker, muddle limes, mint leaves, blackberries, and simple syrup until pulverized. Add rum and ice and shake for 10 seconds. Pour contents into a glass (no straining) and top with two ounces of club soda. Stir and garnish with mint leaves and blackberry. NOTE: For different variations, substitute blackberries with raspberries, strawberries, mangos, kiwis, blueberries, you name it.

We have also pinned other great recipes on our Pinterest page here.

In two weeks, Terry will return from vacation with some great new perspective about the market and our little borough. In the meantime, enjoy the last bit of summer with a cocktail. Before long you will be dressing up the dog or cat in Halloween garb that is also advertised already.

Cheers!
-Jeanne Ketcham
