Go Ahead and Take a Bow Wow!

Is anyone besides me old enough to remember the song “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic?”

If you go into the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise….

(Bonus market buck for a verse…three market bucks if you let me sing the whole thing uninterrupted!)

Here at the LFM we have a slightly different take:  Today’s the day the Doggies have their Parade.  And we’re generally in for a surprise or two from at least one canine contestant.  (Even a cat person can find something adorable to smile at.)  And if you’re asking, “why no special day for the kitty cats?”  Because…cats.  Can’t you just hear them laughing?

Hopefully you’ve spent oodles of time getting your pooch ready…practicing smiling, wagging, striking a pose. Maybe even a new collar or tutu to model?  Whatever makes your dog special, come show it off on Saturday. Registration goes from 9am – 11:15, with the pooch parade starting at 11:30 sharp. (Of course we’ll be on time, it’s not like we’re herding cats…) All parade participants (well, their parents) are asked to donate $1 and the proceeds will benefit Animal Friends of Lansdowne. We’re even adding a special row of pet vendors in The Landing just for the day.

Of course, with or without a pooch, the LFM has something for everyone… friends, fresh air and, of course food…also fresh.

Lately I’ve been dwelling on the produce end of things, but you should know by now that we’re about more than peaches and pears.  So let me digress…

Let’s start with the bread…Big Sky Bread.  Have you met Chris?  He’s the guy usually found behind that groaning board of breads, rolls and filled pastries.  Warning: the pepperoni and cheese loaves are coveted by foodies.  So get there early.

Stepping on to the savory side…Amazing Acres Goat Dairy… French-style goat cheese…creamy, spreadable and combined with all the flavors nature can lend…like my personal favorites, rosemary and lemon, and sea smoke, dusted in charcoal ash and tasting like a brisk winter walk by the ocean.  Visit the link for some recipes with wow-power.  HINT: grab some bread or baguettes from Big Sky to go with.

And you might want to wash that all down with a selection from Mitchell and Mitchell Wines, a pilsner-full of brew from Conshohocken Brewing Co., or finish with an elegant shot of sump’n sump’n from Red Brick Craft Distillery.  Yeah, we got that!

If it’s your sweet tooth that needs a quick fix…Firehouse Donuts will work.  Or stop by John Wilson’s Curiously Good Foods.  John started his life at LFM with just a handful of offerings…most notably his crazy good mushroom soup.  Today he’s extended the menu with stuff like chili, mac’n cheese, chicken salad and more, all uniquely flavored and …all curiously good.   Eat now or take it home. And if we’re still workin’ on your sweet tooth problem…you might consider snagging his pot de creme or one of his creamy sweet possets.

But if you’re after something a bit more hearty for right this minute, let me direct your attention to the juicy, soul-satisfying platters available from Lucille’s Grandaughter or YaYa’s Carribean Cuisine.

And now that we’ve taken care of whichever craving was front and center…take it over to the Landing and grab a chair, because….

In the Music Tent:  Tom Boyd (AKA Slim Jim) returns for his 2nd tour of ditty this season.  If you like (or maybe even remember) the real days of rock ’n roll, his rhythm’s gonna getcha.

Artist of the Week:  Cathy Pregmon returns with her Beads in the 4th Re-Invention.  Cathy has just what you didn’t even know you were looking for…and nothing that you’ll see on anyone else.  Anything you buy will remain uniquely yours.

Health & Beauty: Christine Fierras is The Essential Herbalist.  Oils and mindfulness to improve your health and your home.

Be sure to read the rest of this newsletter for some of the other things happening around town…or visit the LEDC website or FB Page for a calendar of events.

But for starters:

  • Burger Bank opens on Saturday, Ribbon cutting at 12:30 sharp. Can I get an AMEN!
  • Community Potluck Saturday nite at the Landing, 6:00 – 9:00pm.  Hmmm…Suddenly I’m thinkin’ burgers.
  • Next Sunday, Sept 22:  Lansdowne’s Arts on the Avenue  This is a biggie, folks.  The Avenue will be lined with high-end crafts and art.  Fun for the kids, and the kid in you.  Come to browse and shop, stay for the food and the music. The YMCA takes over the Kids Zone again this year, RCN will be showing the Eagles game live on a big-screen tv in the Conshohocken Brewery beer garden, food trucks galore, and live music in the Jamey’s House of Music tent. Can we really fit it all in one day? You betcha!
  • Special added attraction:  The Historic Lansdowne Theater will have a 1 PM open house with a mock-up of the new ceiling restoration.  Bring your camera.
  • And go home sporting your very own ‘Downe not ‘Dale tee!

See you there!

Terry B.
