In Full Swing

Word is out, and the Lansdowne Farmers Market is once again the place to see and be seen on the Avenue.  Be there or be square.

Last Saturday was like Websters definition of a summer day…a beaut!  Sunny skies and, except for a couple of show-off blasts, just enough of a breeze to keep our collective cool.  Hope you were there to enjoy it.

Lots of new vendors this year…and we’re even hoping to rope in a few more.  So be sure, after reading me, of course, to check the schedule each week.  And I’ll continue to keep you up to date, just in case you miss one.

It took some digging, but I was finally able to find the new location of the PAPreferred Produce calendar. (Last printing: 2022). This handy little chart will tell you what to expect when….but with a fair-sized caveat, as our 2024 weather continues to have a mind of its own, and the truth is, it takes more than the thermometer and a finger in the wind to predict just when to plow, plant and pick. It isn’t magic…but it is in the blood..and sweat…and soil.  To put it in 21st century terms…farmers are hardwired to the earth.

And to tell the truth, if the weather gods do as well with the cherries, blueberries, peaches, etc. as they’ve done with the strawberries, this summer will be one for the book…the good book.

Besides our popular produce tent, have you been pleasantly surprised with some of the newer additions to our 2024 vendor lineup?  What’s your pleasure?  Meats? Sweets? Yeah…we got that.   Be sure to go to that schedule link up top to see where to start.  Hmmm…Cookies, cinnamon buns or poundcake?  Beer or bourbon or a healthy juice drink?  Empanadas or barbecue?  And don’t forget to feed your skin and your soul with natural salves and scents.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, June is Gay Pride Month, and Lansdowne is proud to stand up and be counted, no matter what color your particular flag.  Last Saturday’s happy (gay?) parade made the Market its final stop…water ice and pretzels around!   Everyone is welcome here.

As if that wasn’t enough fun…the already action-packed day was extended with the LPBA Summer Night Market, with vendors lining the streets, and shops open til way past their usual bedtimes.  A beautiful ending to a perfect day.

In the Music Tent:  Are you ready????  David Falcone in the house!  You’ll know him the minute you see him, and love him the minute you hear him play.

Artist of the Week:  Karen Heenan  Useful & Beautiful – Upcycled Handmade  When the lady isn’t busy writing novels, she’s imagining how to turn this into that into something you need.

Finally, we are known as a community of artists and musicians.  So I’m repeating my request that someone…or several someones…in the Lansdowne music community, with basic knowledge of sound equipment, please consider helping us out with the weekly set-up & take-down, and to make sure that equipment is put away properly.  This would entail arriving by 9 a.m. to set up, and before 1:00 p.m. to take down.  Please stop by the manager’s tent and I can give you details.  And you will receive the thanks of a grateful matron.

That’s all for now.  Looks like some sun in the forecast, so I’m hoping to put some sand in my shoes before we meet again.
