Did you enjoy your 3rd, 4th and 5th of July? We didn’t know exactly which day to celebrate, so what to do but celebrate all three! That’s just how we roll …or march…here. And what made the celebration so extra special were the actual smiles that we’ve waited two years to see on the faces of friends that we never forgot.
Well, now we’re in for it…summer is really starting to throw her weight around…and who else could do it so… ahem… tastefully.
My long-awaited first taste of local corn…it’s always better than I remember it. The fresh clean taste of a crisp-off-the-vine cucumber…maybe dipped into a fresh herb dressing from Takay Catering? And how do you describe the taste of a ripe tomato? You really can’t.
Up next…yet to be tasted…the first peaches, ‘lopes, watermelons, and those delicate, these-can’t-wait red raspberries. Rinse, eat, repeat.
If you want to make up your own must-haves, here again is that list of what’s up when.
We know that some of the vendors, due to a shortage of trained help, have been MIA. They, and we, are very sorry for the disappointments. But we are always finding new sources of goodness and good taste. Coffee, brewskis, spices, and luxury skin care…so c’mon down and see what’s new!
NOTE: All of our food vendors are local, but some are even more local than others…Did you know that GreenHorn Gardens grows their crops and those amazing flowers just a stone’s throw up the road at the historic Arlington Cemetery? They have restored the old greenhouse where I, as a young bride, used to buy my geraniums each year. Stop up some Sunday afternoon and check them out on their own turf.

And Oh Happy Day…Last Saturday’s alarming tilt toward the back end of the macadam… just meant that BIG SKY BREAD is BACK!
And we’re now making room on the center strip for the Artist of the Week tent! So leave room in the budget for something tasteful, if not edible. Hint: Liz Steele Coates!
And it doesn’t ALL happen at the LFM…
There are lots of plans in the wind for bringing renewed life to the Avenue and the town…like the shops on South Lansdowne that stay open for South-side Thursdays. Exploreour renewed and reclaimed parks and creeks. Treat yourself and someone you love to a mid-week treat at Franklin Fountain’s Sugar Shack. And plans are in motion for a return of Arts on the Avenue, so stay tuned and stay involved with life all over our beautiful little town.
See you here and there,
Terry Baraldi
