The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) is proud to announce the Dragon Spirit Arts Studio & Nue Gallery will be opening in Lansdowne at 201 W. Baltimore Avenue. The Grand Opening weekend is scheduled for Friday, March 24 to Sunday, March 26 with the main event on Saturday, March 25 from 9:30am – 3:30pm.
Dragon Spirit Arts Studio & Nue Gallery, operated by husband-and-wife team Gabrielle de Burke & John Whitney Jr., is a showplace of local, regional, and international talent.
Founder, Lead Instructor and Program Director of Dragon Spirit Arts, Gabrielle de Burke is an awardwinning performance artist in dance, theater and spoken word as well as an Arts Educator. This work informs her approach to teaching yoga, tai chi, qi-gong and mindful-movement. She has been actively teaching in the Philadelphia region and abroad for over 16 years and in Lansdowne for over a decade.
The Yoga offerings range from gentle to vigorous “Vinyasa Flow” while therapeutic practices like “Yin Restorative” classes serve a general population. In addition, there are also classes that focus on specific populations such as Prenatal and Postpartum, Kids and Baby/Parent and Active Seniors/Adults with Limited Mobility. The latter is quite popular! Dragon Spirit Arts also offers form-based and flow-style Tai Chi and Women’s/Co-ed Qi-gong. Finally, there will be a series of special events like Sound Journey Sessions where the facilitator plays a series of instruments ranging from flutes to singing bowls to didgeridoo while participants are immersed in the harmonics. There will be also special practices with live music.
The Grand Opening weekend will include free classes to encourage folks who have never done yoga to come out and give it a try. Schedule for the free classes will be: Friday at 6pm: Yin Restorative Yoga; Saturday at 8am: Dynamic Vinyasa; and Sunday at 1pm: Laughter Yoga. The main Grand Opening event takes place all day Saturday from 9:30am to 3:30 pm. It includes free mini-classes, class demonstrations and live music for attendees. Refreshments will be served and special discounts will be offered on all regularly priced merchandise, class cards, upcoming workshops and class series.
John Whitney, Jr. is the owner and operator of Nue Gallery, which is opening at the same location and will also host an Open House on all three days until 7 p.m. The Nue Gallery will feature new, vintage and antique handmade, indigenous art and jewelry from around the world. The Gallery will also feature local artists and jewelry makers. Sculptures, paintings, one-of-a-kind jewelry, organic body jewelry handmade in Indonesia, singing bowls, incense, yoga clothes and amazing wire-wrap, handmade jewelry are just a sample of what will be offered in the Gallery. Nue Gallery will be open Tuesdays through Saturday from 1 to 7p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 6pm.
