Seasons and Reasons

Did you make it to Market last week?  Did you get everything on your shopping list?  Did you even MAKE a shopping list?

Or did you come to the market only to find that the vendor you most wanted to see wasn’t there that day?   It happens.  We know because you come to the Market Tent hoping we can make that ONE tent suddenly appear.

So I want to make sure, in this and ensuing letters, that you have as much info as you need, and maybe some that you didn’t know you needed.

Some of our vendors are here weekly…some every other, some once a month, etc.  Feel free to ask at their tent…they want you to know.

And usually at the top of this letter, you’ll find the link to Lansdowne Farmers Market with the weekly schedule of who will be there when.

For instance, Tucquan Acres Farm is there weekly with whatever is poking up through that rich Amish soil.  Asparagus, broccoli  and strawberries start the show, along with some tender lettuces and crunchy salad fixings.  But, wait for it… Cucumbers, peas, blueberries and sweet cherries are on their way as I type this.  Yep…June is bustin’ out all over.   And we’re just getting started…as the seasons unfold you can always plan your shopping list or your dinner menu with a visit here: PA Preferred Seasonal Calendar Just a click before Saturday morning can make your weekly trip all it can be.

Back to those strawberries:  I do believe they have been some of the reddest and sweetest in my memory…and that’s going back a ways.  So, the Bisquik box practically jumped off the shelf when I got home, and we’ve been in close contact ever since.  Strawberry shortcake is all you need to say to ship me back to my mom’s elbow as she beat the cream into clouds.

I’ll keep posting here as to what’s in season, and, depending on the weather gods, I may be right half of the time.

You know what would go great with that shortcake?  How about some good barbecue?

Meet Meetz by Meet(Repeat that 3 times)  is joining our midway with a line of sandwiches to eat NOW and some serious meat to bring home.  But heck…let’s let them tell it:

“We Be “Smokin! Meatz by Meez BBQ is proud to present, from our pit to your plate, smoked meats, delicious sides and plenty of hospitality. Offerings such as, Smoked Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Pork, Meezle Twinks* and Savory Pork Belly Burnt Ends…”

*Meezie Twinks”?  First one to come to the marketing tent with an answer on that gets a Market Buck.

As the weeks go on, I’ll try and give some extra props to our newest entrepreneurs, but of course we are happy to see so many back for another turn on the midway.  Don’t forget to check the schedules for your favorites.

In the Music Tent:  Jessica Graae. Sings her original folk rock songs on a classic guitar.

This week’s reminder to read all all of this week’s newsletter for updates on local goin’s on…most especially, just in case you didn’t have enough fun at the Farmers Market that morning,

the Night Market this Saturday night.  I’ll be looking to see you there.

WORD: The Farmers Market is looking for fresh recruits to help with set-up and take-down each Saturday.   This is not a suggestion.,,it’s a reality.  If you want this thing we have here to continue, we need some new and younger blood to do some of the heavy lifting…and to be a part of what comes next in Lansdowne.  Please stop by the manager’s tent this weekend and we will show you how to sign-up for a slot.   Volunteering is how this town, how every small town, works…or doesn’t.

Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday…maybe twice!  How nice!
