To everything…turn turn turn… there is a season …turn turn turn.
Whoever wrote those words must have been a farmer. Or a foodie.
Did you ever get to the market only to find that the very thing at the top of your must-have list was either already gone or not in yet? Dang! If only there were a place to get a heads-up on what’s headed in or out before you get to market. Ta Dah! I give you the PA Dept of Agriculture’s In Season Now page. Ready…Set…Shop!
So gather those June strawberries, peas and asparagus while ye may. And grab some of those sweet cherries while you’re at it. Then, quick as “Bob’s yer uncle” it’s July and BOOM! Full-on summer mode…blueberries, peaches, melons and TOMATOES!
Actually, no need to wait on those famously juicy red Jerseys to roll in…Greenhorn Gardens has some tasty love apples right now. But sacre bleu! Be careful who you share them with! We cannot be held responsible for any ..uh…indiscretions.
Red is the word for some other early summer offerings. Like crunchy peppery radishes. And beets…peeled, slathered in flavored oils or basil pesto, grilled or baked, served hot or chilled, they are a statement piece on a platter. And they’re here all summer long, folks.
As reported previously, and like everywhere else, some left-over Covid issues surrounding staffing shortages are still impacting some vendor schedules. I even heard that there’s a shortage of “Help Wanted” signs! So rather than post the schedule here, go to our LFM website or Facebook page for last-minute updates. Or just come on down and be surprised. ‘Cuz if you can’t find something good to eat, cook or smell here, you’re just not tryin’.
The important thing is that we’re here…and each week brings us closer to the LFM we left in 2019. We have every expectation that things will only get better as we move through summer. Things like… The Artist Tent will return in JULY!
So as our country…our world… gets started on the most important comeback of our times, come out, come together, come share the feast at our LFM table. We’ve saved a place for you.
Happy Fathers’ Day! Happy Juneteenth! Happy Solstice!
Happy to be here,
Terry Baraldi
